Highbay luminaires are used at ceiling heights of roughly 7 metres and above, lowbay units between 4 and 7 metres. The choice follows ceiling height and the required light distribution.
Typical targets are 300-500 lux in general production areas, 750-1000 lux at precision assembly and quality-control stations, and 150-200 lux in warehouse aisles.
IP expresses protection against dust and water, IK expresses impact resistance. At least IP65 is recommended in dusty environments, and IK08 or higher where impact is a risk.
The long service life of LED luminaires greatly reduces relamping frequency, cutting the platform and labour costs that maintenance at height would otherwise require.
